  • Head and Neck Exam: It is important to check for any abnormalities around the head and neck for signs of oral cancer or other potential diseases.

  • Gum Health: Measuring and checking the health of your bone and gums for periodontal disease.

  • Examination of existing restorations: Check the health of existing fillings or other dental work.

Dental Cleanings

Dental cleanings, otherwise known as prophylaxis, are important to maintain healthy teeth and gums, leading to better overall health. Cleanings are usually done by Registered Dental Hygienists, but Dr. DeLeon will also be performing cleanings as a chance for him to meet our patients.

Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:

  • Plaque removal: Plaque is a soft, sticky layer of bacteria that forms on your teeth. These bacteria produce acid that cause inflammation of the gums, leading to periodontal disease.

  • Calculus (Tartar) removal: Our saliva contains calcium, which over time, hardens the plaque on our teeth if not properly maintained. It becomes a rough surface for more bacteria latch on to. At this point, only special dental instruments can be used to remove it.

  • Teeth polishing: The final removal of stains and plaque using a polishing instrument leaving you with a fresh and clean smile.
